Amateur Radio
Exploring The Airwaves
Submitted by admin on Mon, 01/17/2011 - 12:25pm.Since I don't have enough hobbies already (ha!), I recently decided to return to amateur radio after a brief 30+ year hiatus. I originally obtained my Novice license around 1977, but did not pursue it for long. Like many of us, I guess, the computer revolution and the Internet consumed me for most of my life since, but I recently became re-acquainted with amateur radio through professional work on small, commercial satellite systems. Many of these operate on the amateur frequency bands and I found myself looking to setup a home system to work these satellites.
In November, 2010, I passed both the Technician and General class tests and obtained KJ6LTX as my new call sign. Since then I've established modest HF and VHF stations at home and am having a lot of fun getting back into it. The hobby has obviously grown and changed in significant ways and I'm particularly enjoying the intersection of computers with ham radio. Lots to explore - and I guess that's the point.
